The wellness center is located at the basement of the Ambassador Hotel in Benidorm one of the main touristic destinations of the spanish mediterranean coast.
The renewal of the venue is a part of a main redesign of the whole Hotel and the principles that rule the design are the same: naturalness, lightness, clarity and fresness. The aim is recover and somehow redesign a mediterranean identity.
Being located in a basement, it is specialy important the use of artificial light to create changing and magic atmospheres. In this sense the use of jalousies is basic to sieve the indirect light and emphasize the feeling of mistery.
Regarding to the materials and shapes we decided to use white glass mosaic in order to give continuity to all surfaces creating an enveloping organic sensation. We had as references the natural shapes of water eroded caverns and the traditionanal mediterranean water whitewashed constructions such as fountains, rafts and cisterns. Whited wood emuling wood exposed to weathering is the only other material highlighted.
For the distribution we wanted the pool area and the interior atmosphere to be slightly visiblet from the entrance counter. That is why a wooden jalousie is placed over the glass to keep the strain between the insiders privacy and the outsiders curiosity.
